Summary: Lloyd has a plan. Kratos has qualms. Ishida has a needle and thread. This can only go well.

What was that look on Kratos's face for? Lloyd could feel something tense in his back as he waited for the other man to react. Something, anything, augh, it was so frustrating trying to read the angel's face! Finally, the teen couldn't take it anymore.

"Come on," he said. "It's a good plan! The water has to go out somewhere, right? Even if there's a grate, we can bust our way through that!"

From his position on the floor, Ishida paused in his sewing to cast a glance in Kratos's direction. Needle and thread still in hand, he pushed his glasses up to the bridge of his nose. "There is a certain amount of logic to what he suggests, Kratos-san, at least enough to warrant investigation." The needle in his hand dove again, creating another perfect stitch.

Kratos finally shifted, looking up from the bunched fabric in his hands. "Perhaps," he agreed reluctantly. "But is this-" He pulled the swim trunks taut. "Is this really necessary?"

The young man spared another look his way. Something about his posture stiffed, becoming almost defensive even as he dismissed Kratos's concern, turning back to the task in his hands. "I simply added a touch of my own personal style. Whether or not it was necessary had nothing to do with it."

Was that it? Lloyd frowned at the exchange. Was that what Kratos was balking at, the cross design that Ishida had put on the trunks? "It's not like it took him all that long to do," he said. "Man, Ishida, I don't think I've ever seen someone who sews as fast as you."

Was it his imagination, or had the corner of Ishida's mouth twitched up for a moment at that? Once again, his fellow patient pushed his glasses back up his nose. "No need to compliment me, Irving-san. It is simply a basic skill that I have practiced."

"Still better than anything I could do." Or anyone else he knew, for that matter. His adoptive father, Dirk, had been making his clothes for years, but while he was good and Lloyd generally liked his clothes, even he had to admit the waistband of his pants had never fit as well as the band on these newly made trunks. They didn't even need suspenders to keep them on his waist!

"That wasn't what I was referring to." Expression still leery, Kratos lowered the swim trunks. "I meant is it necessary for you to make these for all three of us? You said it yourself. At this point we would only be investigating. There is no need for all of us to get in the water at once."

Ishida opened his mouth to respond, but Lloyd cut him off. "You don't know that," he said. Irritation flickered on his face. It rankled him that Kratos couldn't seem to help but try to poke holes in his plans. This always happened, no matter what he suggested. Well, not this time. Lloyd had spent more than one day shift thinking through this plan, and he was certain he'd covered everything. "What if something happens and I need help? Or what if there's something I can't get through by myself?"

"If we are all in the water, we will be leaving our backs unguarded," Kratos retorted.

"Only if we are all in the water," Ishida joined in calmly. Another stitch, then he tied and cut his thread. Time to work on another seam. "However, as Irving-san has said, we do not know what we will run into in this endeavor, so there is no way to know which of us will need to go into the water. Therefore, we should all be prepared in case any one of us is needed. If such a situation arises, I doubt any of us will want to submerse ourselves in our normal clothes."

...dammit, why couldn't his arguments come out sounding as calm and logical as that? Lloyd had to brush off a twinge of jealousy before he decided he was just as glad that he had Ishida on his side. "Yeah, that," he said. "Swim trunks would be a lot easier to swim in than pants and a shirt like that."

Kratos's face twisted into a grimace, and Lloyd knew they'd won. And that was something rare enough that Lloyd couldn't help but smile, elated. Getting Kratos to approve his plans was hard, and somehow that alone made it even more worth it when he managed to argue the former mercenary to his side.

Ishida didn't smile, but there was satisfaction on his face when he looked up from his sewing. "Besides," he said. "I think it will suit you remarkably well to wear those swim trunks, Kratos-san. You would make a fine Quincy swimmer."

Lloyd got the impression that that was a compliment, though the word "Quincy" didn't mean anything to him. Probably something to do with the cross. It obviously meant something to Ishida, though, and that was good enough for him. He didn't need to know the context to feel pleased to have the cross on his swim trunks, too. Kratos, however...

Kratos just pinched the bridge of his nose. "Very well," he said, clearly unimpressed. "Let's get this over with."
