[There's a huge grin on Lloyd's face, the kind of grin you only give when you're pleased and excited and everything is right in the world, or when something amazing is happening.]

Hey, everyone! Guess who's officially an adult today!

[That's right, it's his birthday - or the one that he and Dirk celebrate. The only one he's ever known, so the only one that counts as far as he's concerned.]

Oh, yeah, by the way, Kanaya, I finished that necklace for you! When do you wanna meet up?

[He... hasn't realized yet that Kanaya is gone. Late with your gifts again, Lloyd. Always late. :/ ]

But man, I've been looking forward to this birthday so much! Now that I'm eighteen, I don't have to go back to school!

[And just like that Lloyd feels like he's been doused with cold water.]

[Brb, frantically scrolling through the contact list looking for Kanaya's name. He doesn't find it, though. Jade's telling the truth, of course. Thoroughly stunned, Lloyd sits down.]

That can't be right...

Yeah, I do! What if you took some pictures of yourself and gave them to places you'd like to work?

[Nope, he has no idea how the model business works.]

I think I want to build things, or make things, like houses or boats or jewelry. Maybe someday I could even work my way up to armor or weapons, but I don't know if I'll ever be strong enough for that.

I didn't want to believe it either. A lot of people are disappearing lately...

Huh. I kind of thought you were a little older. Maybe around my age.

Yeah! I've carved a necklace for one of my friends a while back, and I've carved a few other things when I've been bored. Some figurines, some designs, and a few other things. I'm thinking I could do something with that for a job, though, so I might make a lot more stuff.

[Lloyd blinks, a tiny thread of alarm mixing in with the rest of his shock.]

You don't think they're connected, do you? It's not just people waking up? It's something happening to them?

I really don't know, but I wish I did... there's no way for us to know for sure, is there?

Not that I know of...

But that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I haven't actually looked for a way to see back home, just going back home. Maybe if we look for a... a window instead of a door, we might have better luck.

Yeah, most of that stuff tastes terrible, but there's some that doesn't. You've gotta be careful, especially since you can get drinks now without getting in trouble.

They're kinda hard to explain...[How to word this...ah!] The little ones are like really bad headaches, but the big ones....okay, take the worst headache you've ever had, for whatever reason, and make it ten times stronger and put dizziness in that mess, too. If it's really bad, any kind of light or sound is gonna make it worse, and if you try to get up without help, you'll fall over.

[deeefiinitely speaking from experience. And with some luck, Lloyd's plans last longer than Zack's ever did. That was one messy night, that's for sure.]

Not a clue. It's worth a shot, though, right?

[With a wry laugh, Lloyd rubs the back of his head.]

Yeah, but it takes a lot of work to get that strong, especially for a human, and I don't know if I want to spend that much time working on it. I still like doing other things, too.

Ouch. Man, why would anyone want to get drunk if that's what's going to happen? That sounds like it's even worse than being sick.
