[Yup, somebody begged his best friend to show him how to lock. That done, he turns his attention on the Dreamberry - and Somarium in general by extension. His expression is very serious, and perhaps a little chagrined.]

Hey, everyone. I... kind of need some help. I need to get stronger, so I need to train, but I also need help learning how to fight magic users. [He makes a face.] Especially magic users that can fly.

[No, he's not talking about anyone in specific. What makes you think that?]

Does anyone want to spar? Or have any advice?

[Lloyd nods, rubbing his arm gingerly, trying to soothe the phantom pain.]

So I should probably call it quits for now.

[A pause, then Lloyd glances at Kid.]

You're really good with that gun.

For now, yes. It wouldn't do to risk a more serious injury.

[Kid blinks.]

Thank you. I'm still adjusting to using these replacements. But your own skills are not bad either.

Thanks. [Lloyd smiles, though there's a slightly embarrassed edge to it. He rubs the back of his head with his good hand.] But I could still be better. I made a mistake, and that's why I got shot. I'd be in pretty bad trouble if that fight had been real.

[That comment makes him curious, though.]

You used to have different guns?

That's why we are training, isn't it?

[and nods.]

Yes. [holds up the two handguns in a perfectly symmetrical fashion.] They were similar to these, but the guns I used are of a different make and model. They were also not just ordinary guns, but my Weapon partners.

[this. is where it gets complicated.] To put it simply, in my world there are those—people—who have the ability to turn into weapons.

[What? Lloyd gives Kid a look of mixed confusion and startlement.]

People in your world can turn themselves into weapons? But... how? Why? Wouldn't it work better for you both to fight and just use normal weapons?

If we were all using normal weapons, perhaps. But those who turn into Weapons are not ordinary weapons.

In my world, our souls actually hold a lot of power. Those who can wield Weapons are called Meisters. When a Weapon and Meister work together, they are actually amplifying their soul wavelengths and therefore their powers, creating a more powerful team. One pair can potentially act as a whole army of normal humans.

Whoa. That's amazing! [Lloyd is duly impressed!] Man, I always knew souls were important and that they could make you stronger, but I never knew they could do something like this!

[Picking up enthusiasm now.]

How do you know if someone is a weapon or a... a meister? And do you still get to pick who you work with?

Those who are Weapons usually learn on accident. No one knows until they happen to transform a part or all of their body. As for being a Meister, those with strong souls are usually the best candidates.

For partners, there's a bit of a catch. Theoretically you can pick and choose, however your souls have to be compatible and resonate with one another. If the wavelengths conflict with one another, then the partnership won't work.

[Lloyd nods at the explanation of partnership. That makes sense. Well, sort of. He's not sure he gets the part about resonants or consonants or whatever, but if two souls don't get along, then they'd make pretty bad partners.]

Can people from other worlds be meisters or weapons?

Hm...you know, I'm not actually sure. Perhaps in theory, but I honestly couldn't say for certain.

I don't suppose there's any way to find out?

The only thing one could test is if someone could be a potential meister and wield one of the weapons that we have here. But that's all I can think of.

So normal people can't just pick up a Weapon from your world? They have to be a meister?

Well they could, but again you have the issue of the soul wavelengths being compatible or not. If the two people are extremely incompatible, then the person may not even be able to hold the Weapon at all.

While theoretically anyone could be a meister, meisters usually have stronger soul wavelengths than most other people.

[Lloyd grins, thinking he hears the answer he wanted to hear.]

So, in theory, I could learn to be a meister, too!

[Hey, he can dream, right?]

I bet I have a pretty strong soul!

In theory yes.

[well now that you ask—]

You do, actually.

[and he's been feeling weird about that Exsphere of yours, but not going to say anything. yet.]

Awesome! Maybe someday I'll have a chance to find out if I can!

[Blink. Wait.]

I do? I mean, you can tell?

Yes, I can. I have an ability that allows me to perceive and see the soul wavelengths of anything that has a soul.

[Lloyd's mouth opens, his eyes widening just a little. He's never heard of something like that before, but...]

That's amazing! Anything? Even dogs or cats or fish? What does a soul look like?

Yes, anything, and each creature has a different signature so they could be easily identified if you know them.

As for how they look like... [hm. how to explain...] I suppose the closest visual example would be the traditional symbol of fire, where it's round on the bottom and the flame flickering on top.

[he would draw it but that would require him having to use a stick and get dirty.]

I see...

[That's okay, Kid. Lloyd's got a pretty good imagination. He can picture what you're describing, and he likes that imagery a lot.]

That explains a lot of things! That's why it feels warm when you're with friends, or why it's hot when you're near someone you're really angry with. When fires get close together, they get even stronger!

...I suppose that's one way to look at it.

So, you can see people's soul fires. Is that something you learned? Or were you born with it?

Born with. However there are others who have the same ability.

You could say it's more like a heightened sense of awareness, but in terms of soul wavelengths.

[So it's probably not something Lloyd will ever see for himself. That's mildly disappointing, but... oh well. He'll get over it.]
