Hey, everyone! Guess who's officially an adult today!

[That's right, it's his birthday - or the one that he and Dirk celebrate. The only one he's ever known, so the only one that counts as far as he's concerned.]

Oh, yeah, by the way, Kanaya, I finished that necklace for you! When do you wanna meet up?

[He... hasn't realized yet that Kanaya is gone. Late with your gifts again, Lloyd. Always late. :/ ]

But man, I've been looking forward to this birthday so much! Now that I'm eighteen, I don't have to go back to school!

Oh... hi there, Lloyd! I'm Jade- a friend of Kanaya's, but I don't think we've met. Happy birthday!

But... um... I guess you don't know what happened to her.

[The cheerful expression falls off his face, melting into one of concern.]

Happened? What do you mean? What happened to her?

Well... she's gone.

She went back to our world, or she woke up, or whatever happens when people leave here.

[And just like that Lloyd feels like he's been doused with cold water.]

But we- She was-

[Brb, frantically scrolling through the contact list looking for Kanaya's name. He doesn't find it, though. Jade's telling the truth, of course. Thoroughly stunned, Lloyd sits down.]

That can't be right...

I didn't want to believe it either. A lot of people are disappearing lately...

[Lloyd blinks, a tiny thread of alarm mixing in with the rest of his shock.]

You don't think they're connected, do you? It's not just people waking up? It's something happening to them?

I really don't know, but I wish I did... there's no way for us to know for sure, is there?

Not that I know of...

But that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I haven't actually looked for a way to see back home, just going back home. Maybe if we look for a... a window instead of a door, we might have better luck.

Yeah... You're right. I shouldn't give up hope. I'll keep trying my best, and maybe I'll see her again, here or in her world. I'll definitely let you know how it goes.
